Powered by a commitment to cutting-edge learning and state-of-the-art spaces, Partners by Design’s partnership with Lake Forest Country Day School celebrates the question: “What’s possible?” The new innovation lab supports student growth in new areas of technology and manufacturing, along with being the hub of ingenuity in a school rooted in tradition. Created with three distinct components—The Innovation Lab, The Think Tank, and The LEGO Lab—each space is designed for flexibility and open collaboration.
Providing the opportunity for students in kindergarten through 8th grade to learn new skills and solve problems using technology, innovative materials and equipment were used throughout the design, and segments of the building systems in different rooms were left exposed to foster curiosity about how things work. Developing the next generation of makers and do-ers, the Lab includes 3D printing, CNC milling and other forms of automated creation, and students can use state-of-the-art cameras, craft digital music and videos, record and edit podcasts, and even prototype their own robot. The inclusion of glass and metal facades, lots of light, portable storage, and writable surfaces aid the process of innovation while still being durable enough to withstand young minds as they invent, elaborate, and explore.
