Goldman Ismail Tomaselli Brennan & Baum LLP (GITB&B) is an industry-leading, national law practice that specializes in large-scale cases and focuses on litigation. The Chicago-based firm selected Partners by Design to spearhead their relocation from River West to the Loop.
The move was in response to the client’s need to improve space utilization and efficiencies of their previous space and address current occupancy requirements. Their main design goal was not to display the work that they do or intimidate with flashy finishes, but to create a setting that employees would enjoy coming to work in – an energetic environment designed to support the collaborative office culture.
Private offices, though on the window line, are small in footprint, standardized in size, and have glass fronts. Breaking away from the traditional law firm approach of providing coveted corner offices, GITB&B opted to dedicate this prime real estate to shared spaces: conference rooms, break rooms and a game room. Artwork from local Chicago artists are featured throughout the space and range from wall-sized murals to detailed mosaics.
Ultimately, PBD worked closely with GITB&B to design a space that is transparent and adaptable. Through the use of varying materials such as the Lobby Screen in the reception area and a moss installation outside of a meeting room, the space breaks traditional norms for the typical law firm, creating a truly unique and unexpected atmosphere.
