Cabot Microelectronics is a global supplier of consumable materials to semiconductor manufacturers. Their products play a critical role in the production of advanced semiconductor devices, helping to enable the manufacture of smaller, faster and more complex devices by their customers. The company approached Partners by Design to turn an existing space into a Lab space for an Advanced Scanning Electron Microscope. The design process of the space was based on the concept of precision – every material, joint, panel, light, door, and trim was purposely placed to frame and serve the microscope. The lab itself is a small space that meets the functional needs of lighting, acoustics and cleanliness that this Lab requires. Visually, the Lab is essentially a sort of “jewel” box to display this microscope instrument that originates from Germany, becoming a highlight of the facility during regular visitor tours.
